Tauranga and Mount Maunganui

These two small New Zealand town were just adorable.  Tauranga was a bit larger with the a large shipping port which exports lumber to China.  We took the hop on hop off bus and toured a 1835 Mission, chapel and gardens.  Mount Maunganui is anchored by an extinct volcano.  We loved the art shed which featured local artists including a wood carver who used repurposed lumber like fence posts.  We bought an adorable pottery penguin made by an 82 year old Kiwi.  The yarn booth had the beautiful work of 10 local women. The highlight of that booth was the completely knit bicycle and tricycle.

All knit bycycle

This wood carver is in his late 80's and carves his wares with re-purposed wood.

Beautiful Mission house in Tauranga.

The Maori Folkloric performance aboard ship was well done with adorable audience participation. The children were so cute and ernest.

The evening entertainment was Mario D'Andrea, born in Italy, raised in Australia and working in Vegas.  He is a great guitarist and vocalist. He really got the crowd rocking.
