Auckland Activities

The Auckland Art Museum

The right price (free), no crowds, a delish cafe, perfect location ( two blocks from our apartment ) a beautiful building, but not much of a collection.

The Maritime Museum and Sail
Just  a perfect place to spend an afternoon. It is locatedin the viaduct area on the harbor with great views and a cool breeze from every room in the museum. There was every kind of sailing vessel imaginable and they were all displayed so well. Lots to see.  The museum also offered an hour of fun sailing on the harbor, giving us an opportunity to see Auckland from the water. We sailed under the Auckland Harbor Bridge and saw several people bungee jump from the bridge. The people were very friendly and were happy to chat with us.  We had fish and chips for lunch at the waterfront cafe right next door to the museum and of course sampled the local beer.

Masco Wool Shop
This yarn shop simply brought tears to my eyes. I immediately got sweaty palms and felt a bit faint when I saw all of that New Zealand merino woll yarn with blends including possum! Did I buy anything?  Some handmade ceramic buttons and 100 grams of the most beautiful merino to make a hitch hiker scarf.

  2. I'll take a pair of possum socks, please. Make sure they have little possum faces knitted into to toe area. :)
