Hobart, Tasmania

Hobart was a very welcome sight after two days at sea. It got a bit rough out there on the Tasman Sea.... glad to be in port today.

We took an excursion to the Bonorong Wildlife Park which is a sanctuary for animals who have been abandoned or hurt.  We were able to pet and feed the kangaroos, take a good look at the tasmanian devils (they look NOTHING like the Disney devil...) walmbats, exotic birds, and of course the Koalas.

We were able to pet these guys and gals.

This is the rest home for aging kangaroos

Burt. Adorable

The tasmanian devil taking a swim

A baby wambat. A marsupial

The village of Richmond was just adorable. All cream brick buildings built by the convicts in the late 1800's. Small shops, a bakery, the oldest Catholic Church in AU, the oldest bridge in AU, and a great tavern where we had a "local" beer brewed in Tasmania - Cascade. On this hot hot day (almost 90) it sure did taste good.

This bridge was built by convicts. Iti is the oldest bridge in AU.

This is St. John's Church. Built by convicts. It is the oldest church in AU.

Local beer. Cascade. Very tasty on a very hot day.

One for me, one for Tom.

We will be back for a week in late March and we will travel around the island so we will definitely see much more of this island.

The entertainment on the ship was a Nikki Bennett a vocalist from AU. She was outstanding.  More great talent aboad the Solstice.

Tomorrow is another day at Sea on our way to Melbourne,AU.
