Castela Rodriga and Guimaraes

Castelo Rodrigo is located 3200 feet above sea level and is one of Portugal's 12 historic villages. The streets are very narrow and steep.  The Celts settled here and the Romans built the fortress. In 1297 it became part of the Portugal territory. The church was founded in 1192 and still gives shelter to pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.

Guimaraes is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is like no other city in Portugal. It is referred to as the "Cradle of the Nation"  The monastery was constructeed in the 10th century. The fort was built to defend the community from the Moors and Normands. The castle dominates the skyline of the city.
The medieval streets are well preserved today. The palace was built in the 15th century.

Stations of the cross throughout the city.
